Self Assessment Joining the Conversation Step #3

Self-Assessment Reflection

  1. What were your goals for yourself in writing this paper?  To what extent did you reach your goals?
In writing this I set out to keep it real. Because I choose to do a dialogue I wanted it to sound like it would actually happen in real life. I developed each one of the characters’ personalities and I feel like I was successful at doing so.

  1. How did you use your time in developing this paper?  Did you use class opportunities to improve your writing?  Explain.  How did your use of time fit your goals?
I sat down and read through my bibliography so I could get a refresher on which each character knows. I then just started typing and decided to see where my brain and hands took it. I always tend to right in the moment and then after the first draft is done is when I usually go back and re read it to make sure that it is a great piece. I used the class opportunities we had with workshoping to really take this piece to the next level. I wasn’t aware when we first workshopped about having the 5 sources as a role so I now have about 10 characters.

  1. How did you see your writing changing?  Did you take advantage of the responses from your peers?  Explain how you worked with your peers?
My writing changed tenfold.  I did take advantage of what my peers said about my paper. I was able to add in my sources and still keep it realistic and have it now sound like fat sheets were throwing out information.

  1. Who else contributed to your paper’s success?  Explain their role?
Megan did, I liked how she pushed us out of our comfort zone and made us write a dialogue. I would have never guessed that I would have choose to do a dialogue as my final piece but I am glad I did. I feel like I was able to convey my point without having to write a long boring essay. I feel as if the reader will enjoy it more as well.

  1. What have you learned about yourself as a writer? What did you learn from others?
I learned that I do really enjoy writing dialogues. I loved that I could take it anywhere and use slang as well as develop a character. I was able to use comic relief and have a  smartass in the class room as well as a sort of know it all goodie two shoes.

  1. What was the hardest part of writing this paper?  Explain.  What was the easiest part? Explain.  Where did you take risks?  Explain.
The hardest part was trying to figure out where to add the characters in without it seeming like I just threw them in.  the easiest part was adding the student characters. They just created themselves and I felt that it resembled a real life class room.

  1. What parts of your paper are you proudest of?  Why?
Im pretty proud of the whole thing. I love the dialogue as a whole.

  1. What parts of your paper still need improvement?  Why?  How did you attempt to make these improvements before you turned the paper in?
I think that I could add more to the ending because it does end rather abruptly.

  1. Explain your writing process from brainstorming to now.
I sat down and tried to remember each characters info from the bib and then went to town typing. I just typed and wrote down what I was feeling. I was sure not to use advanced language due to the fact that most people don’t use high level words in a high school Q&A.
